Overwhelmed,
my eyes leak all over the page.
My bedroom blurs
the pen melts
the few sentences I've written
merge and run.

I grieve for unfinished work
and for the thousandth time
of the courage I'd need
to curl up
like paper
and never face these trials

But for the first time
I realise
the mother I'll one day be
the sister, lover, Godparent I am now

is worth more than a cold body
with an unfinished education.

These hard times are to be endured
but they're not worth dying for.
