Flat on my back,
engulfed in darkness.
Gazing up at light fixtures
and heating vents
emerging from the ceiling.
Little light
flowing from it's source
in the hallway.
Filtered through
that somewhat checkered pattern
in the pitiful excuse for a curtain,
covering the tall slender window
in the heavy green door.
I take a breath,
and then another.

Solitude.
