We have waited for hours upon end in order for someone to have enough time to listen to us. Everybody else just has to snap their fingers, and someone is absolutely available to talk to them, but we have to hide inside ourselves and when the pressure builds over, it comes out in the form of blood. Perhaps it is easy for those who have never felt how much more painful the world can be when you’re completely and utterly alone to say "You shouldn’t cut yourself; it’s bad." But when everything in your world is out of your control; when your peers couldn’t be more vocal about how much they don’t care; when the people you care about are too busy with themselves every time you really need them, so you stop going to them all together; when the world is completely ignorant of the torrent and muddiness of your own mind; when you feel everything is lost and do not believe you even have a life in you, but the blood seeping out of your skin tells you otherwise; when every single thing in your life becomes centered around a box cutter, and you can’t even carry on through everyday life without having to consult your sadistic therapist; when everything is so tensed and tangled that all it takes is pressing a blade against your skin and watching the void fill with a red liquid exclusive to life to make everything seem brand new again; when you feel ashamed of how the things that others have done to you make you feel; when you have to lie to everyone that knows you that a cat did it; when your friends and family begin to see through the lie; when your mother finds out of what had transpired in her selfish absence and looks at you with so much disgust that it makes you feel no better than a common prostitute; when everyone you know pretends to act like they truly care or like they don’t know at all when they do; when everyone around you refuses to understand and accept that everything is not okay, then maybe you can understand why we cut. There comes a time when all the pressure in our lives becomes nigh impossible to have to keep it all to ourselves and never being able to get help. I hope that someday everybody can understand the pain they inadvertently inflict upon others without necessarily doing anything.
