It wasn't like she was an unhappy girl, most of the time she wore a smile on her face and in her heart. There was no rhyme or reason about it. She enjoyed her music and playing tennis, she was normal, well the standardized definition of normal. This wasn't supposed to happen to normal girls.

It wasn't like she had spent all her time planning it; it was actually the farthest thing from her plans. She was to slice a cube of the fat watermelon's pink meat off and go straight to her homework, but as she caught sight of her face in the shining kitchen knife something inside her changed.

It didn't seem at all likely that a person would be able to change within a second's time, it should take years for such a drastic change in a lively, happy, fun girl's personality but it didn't. Somehow the only thing she could see was the bad in her life, her trouble with teachers and friends, the relationship with her parents seemed to blacken as their faults came centerfold, nothing was as it should have been in her eyes.

In that moment time seemed to stand still as she pressed the knife, lightly at first, to the pulsing blue vein at the center of her wrist. The room seemed to spin and she sucked air into her lungs, it was like a movie and she was waiting to see what would happen next. Blood bubbled up at her seeming to jump at the chance to escape her body.

Her head lolled back and she laughed before placing the knife back in its original place at the back of the second drawer to the left. For now she'd forget her afternoon treat as her cravings had been satisfied by an unexpected source.
